Welch. It was originally used as a stopover for mobsters moving between Chicago and Florida, or other cities. After this, it became an underground gambling hall complete with false walls and secret cellars to hide in. Following on from this, in the 40s it became a short-lived gourmet restaurant that catered to the rich and famous. It hosted such stars of the silver screen as Bob Hope, Spencer Tracy, and Betty Grable. It has had many uses since then, like a riding academy, and later a private residence until it was purchased in 1979 by the Nuyens family. They opened the castle as a recording studio several years later in 1982. Many renowned musicians have recorded here, from Etta James to Alison Kraus to Katy Perry.
