Their music spans the broad genre of folk, from softer tunes resembling traditional folklore, through upbeat chops in the direction of bluegrass, and on to modern folk with true flavor and creativity. Their combined mandolin, guitar, acoustic bass, and welling harmonies create an enchanting experience that leaves the listener wanting more. The band comprised of Nolan Gordin, Nik Kemmer, and Phil Krug, with frequent special guests joining the three. All members contribute to song writing and are multi-instrumentalists. Their lyrical content is reminiscent of travel, romance, the beauty of nature, as well as life in the Old West. Their musical influences include Trampled by Turtles, Old Crow Medicine Show, Steep Canyon Rangers, and Railroad Earth. Wooden Sleepers is a Portland folk-rock band featuring Nolan Gordin, Nik Kemmer, Phil Krug, and Carl LaRue. The band has been writing songs and performing together for the past four years, building a loyal fan base with their upbeat folk and bluegrass tunes. Their debut full-length album, Storm Floatin’, gives a nod to those roots while showcasing a more progressive blend of americana, rock, and soul influences. Continuing the DIY approach, the record was entirely engineered, mixed, and produced by the band over numerous sessions in Portland and on the Oregon Coast in 2017 and early 2018, with additional fiddle and banjo performed by multi instrumentalist Amy Hakanson. The final tracks were mastered by Gus Elg at Sky Onion in Portland, with one of a kind artwork created via block print by long time friend and printer Harry Schneider. Storm Floatin’ is available now on all major steaming services.
