Carabelle's Eats & Treats is a bakery and catering service that employs and trains women coming out of incarceration in the culinary field. Our company was founded after my 2-year-old daughter, Carabelle Douglas passed away in a house fire January 2018.
After my experience of severe trauma, addiction, and incarceration, I entered into recovery, and in January 2020, started my culinary journey to help other system-involved women. I found healing not only in cooking, but also watching other women with adverse backgrounds flourish professionally and personally.
10 percent of all sales go to fund our non-profit, Carabelle's Legacy, which provides fire safety education to members of our community as well as aftercare services to families who have experienced loss from a fire.
Carabelle's Eats and Treats provides second-chance employment opportunities to system-involved women, reducing the cycle of recidivism by paying a livable wage, providing career advancement through culinary training, and helping reunite families by providing sustainable employment, a requirement to regain custody of their child(ren). Everything is made from scratch, so there is a sense of love, care, and dedication in our food. Taste and see for yourself!
Raised by a baker and banquet chef, Carabelle’s Eats and Treats Executive Chef Maria Morris was born with food magic in her blood.
Morris attended the Tulsa Tech Culinary Arts program, where she was recognized for superior culinary and leadership skills by the National Restaurant Association (NRA). She has also been recognized by Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) for her superior culinary and leadership skills.
In January of 2020, Carabelle’s Eats & Treats was created in memoriam of Carabelle M. Douglas [03.22.16 - 01.10.18] to encourage hope, healing, and productivity in women who have experienced loss and justice system involvement.
